King Yuvanaswa, though wealthy and with many wives, longed for children. Sage Bhrigu prepared a magic potion for his queen, and during a ritual to please the gods, the exhausted king accidentally drank it himself. As a result, Yuvanaswa became pregnant. When the time came, the gods, including Indra, helped deliver the baby from the king’s thigh. Since Yuvanaswa couldn’t breastfeed, Indra fed the baby with nectar from his thumb, naming the child Mandhata, who would later conquer the earth.
